SOVIET TROOPS

CLOSING ON MILLEROVO PRESSURE INTENSIFIED. ENEMY GIVEN NO CHANCE OF RECOVERY. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, December 23. The Russians are forming a semi-circular front round the north of Millerovo. Correspondents say the Russians are increasing their pressure on that centre and their chief aim is to maintain the momentum of their advance and give the enemy no chance of recovery. In this area the Germans have made elaborate preparations for holding out in the winter and as a result enormous quantities of all kinds of war supplies have fallen into Russian hands. The German death roll is mounting—up to 8000 in one day. The enemy’s position is thought to be so critical that he may have to abandon attempts to relieve his forces trapped west’ of Stalingrad.
