CARTERTON.
CHRISTMAS SHOPPING EXCELLENT BUSINESS REPORTED. (“Times-Age” Special.) Shopkeepers in Carterton report that, despite the shortage of some lines, excellent business has been done during the Christmas period. On Christmas Eve no motor cars will be allowed in the main street from Pembroke Street to Belvedere Street, between certain hours. It is probable Carterton’s band will play a few selections in the street, after which they will adjourn to the band room and a social gathering will be held, at which prizes, given by local residents, will be awarded to the most improved junior players during the past six months. BOWLING BOXING DAY TOURNAMENT. Excellent entries have been received for the Carterton Bowling Club’s tournament on Saturday, commencing at 5 a.m. Members are asked to be punctual so as to avoid delay in starting the games. The Carterton Club will be represented at the Wairarapa Centre bowling tournament at Masterton on New Year’s Day by five rinks. - Curtis beat Beaven in a champion singles game played last evening, 28/11. Clark and Callender (s) beat Kilmister and Riggs (s) in a progressive pairs game, 23/19. REGENT THEATRE “RIDE ’EM COWBOY.” The excellent comedy, “Ride ’em Cowboy,” will be finally shown tonight. with Bud Abbott and Lou Costello in the principal roles. It is one of the most extraordinary western pictures ever filmed.
