OFFICIAL HISTORY
OF AUSTRALIA’S PART IN THE WAR. PLANS FOR THE COLLECTION OF RECORDS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.45 a.m.) CANBERRA, .This Day. Plans have been made for the collection of records for an official history of Australia’s part in the present war. The Federal Premier (Mr Curtin) has announced that the appointment of an editor-in-chief is all that remains to be done. The War Cabinet is understood to contend strongly that Australia’s war history should be handled by. and edi-tor-in-chief as against an official war historian. A similar view is held by the official-1914-18 war historian, Captain Bean, who has recommended to the Government that the editor of the official history of this war should not write more than two volumes, but should devote his main attention to an early collection of notes, thus ensuring the accuracy of the official record of Australia’s part in the struggle.
