STATE THEATRE
“NO GREATER SIN.” The season for “No Greater Sin” has been extended. The picture will be shown tonight and finally tomorrow, night. “MAJOR BARBARA.” George Bernard Shaw’s intriguing and witty play, “Major Barbara,” will be shown on. Wednesday afternoon,, Wednesday night and Thursday night. “Major Barbara” has Wendy Hiller, the star of “Pygmalion,” Rex Harrison and Robert Morley in - the leading roles. The film is outstanding not only for the work of the three principals, but for the excellence of the cast. If one looks closely, there will be seen the well-known cockney actor, Ronald Shiner, in a oneline part, and Kathleen Harrison, also a specialist in cockney roles, takes the screen only for a hilarious minute. Felix Aylmer’s part gives him no more than four lines, but he brings to it 25 years of acting experience. Dame Sybil Thorndike, who has played the title role of “Major Barbara” many times herself on the stage, gives generously of her beauty of diction and her matchless enthusiasm to the important but smallish part of- General Baines. Another big name linked to a not-so-big part is that of Emlyn Williams. Robert Newton, too, gives the principals a hard run for first place by his handling of the role of the bullying Bill Walker. There will be a special session on Christmas Eve, commencing at the conclusion of the ordinary programme, when “Hayfoot” and “Niagara Falls” will be shown.
