Smith were unsuccessful in their challenge match, being defeated by the holders, Pankhurst, Simmonds, Tucker, Sorensen (s), 22/11. The game was interesting throughout, with Pankhurst (lead) and Sorensen playing splendid bowls. The Carterton green was very fast and a gusty wind made bowling very tricky. Of the 20 ends played, Smith scored on 9, but two fours to Carterton in the first half of the game proved too great a hurdle. This is the third challenge Sorensen has staved off this season. The clubs yet to play in the first round are Martinborough and Greytown.
