HOLIDAY TRAVEL

WAIRARAPA TRAIN SERVICE. DISTRICT WELL SERVED. Referring to holiday travel this morning, the Stationmaster at Masterton, Mr R. A. Taylor, said that there would be the usual full Christmas timetable on the Wairarapa line. As was to be expected, in view of the restrictions on travel distances exceeding 100 miles, there would be few long journeys. Only necessary and essential travel would be permitted. 1 Asked to comment on a complaint that trains were travelling half empty on account of the travel restrictions, iMr Taylor said the statement was an exaggeration, as trains were arranged to suit the number of reservations which had to be made for travel over the 100-mile limit. If there were vacant seats, it simply meant that passengers would be picked up at subsequent stations. Explaining that the district would be well served on December 24, Mr Taylor said that in addition to the ordinary train and rail-car services the following special trains would run: — From Wellington, depart 8.26 a.m, arrive Masterton 12.1 p.m. Depart 2 p.m., arrive Masterton 5.44 p.m. Depart 4.32 p.m., arrive Masterton 8.12 . p.m., arrive Woodville '10.24 p.m. Depart 10.25 p.m., arrive Masterton 1.54 a.m. on December 25. From Masterton: Depart 6.10 p.m., arrive Wellington 10.33 p.m.
