SHOT DOWN BY FLYING FORTRESSES ONE OF THE AMERICAN PLANES LOST. BUT MEMBERS OF CREW SAVED. LONDON, December 17. ' American Flying Fortresses 'attacking the Munda airfield in .New Georgia destroyed an entire force of 12 Japanese Zero fighters which tried to intercept them. The enemy planes were given such a rough reception that every one was shot down. One Fortress was lost but the erew' ■were rescued. Sustained American attacks are being made on the airfield the enemy is trying to build at Munda. An enemy destroyer has been damaged in the same area. One American bomber failed to return.
