ENSLAVED BY NAZIS
RUSSIAN AND POLISH WOMEN. MANY EMPLOYED IN WAR INDUSTRIES LONDON, December 16. The Germans are conscripting a large number of Russian women as servants for German hotels, restaurants and private houses, says the “Daily Telegraph’s” diplomatic correspondent. Members of the Board of the Gestapo and Nazi women’s organisations choose the Russian women on the grounds of health and appearance. Jewesses and those with a Jewish appearance are rejected. The selected Russians are treated like cattle and are transported to Germany labelled “sent by freight.” Their employers inform the security police in case of the slightest offence. Russian women are sometimes employed in the building industry, but this is not officially approved. Germany is at present employing 500,000 foreign women, mostlv Poles and Russians, .in the war industries.
The Ministry of Economic Warfare states that Germany is drafting women into the army and air force as auxiliary signallers to help meet the increasing manpower shortage.
