Mr H. L. Cunninghame has been elected president of the Palmerston North Chamber of Corrimerce. Mr K. A. Gornall, of the Majestic Theatre, Invercargill, has been appointed manager’ of the Regent Theatre . at Masterton. The Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, Prime Minister. left Wellington today for the South Island to take part in the Tasman tercentenary celebrations. He will return to Wellington tomorrow. Three appointments to the Board of Health are announced in last night’s Gazeztte. They are: Mr A. J. Baker, Mr J. W. Andrews and Mr F. Castle. The appointments are for terms of three years from December 1. The death occurred at the Buchanan Home, Greytown, yesterday, of Mrs Clara H. Hider, widow of the late Mr Peter Hider, of Masterton, at the age of 81 years. Mrs Hider had been a resident of Masterton for many years. The funeral took place in Masterton this afternoon. The funeral of the late Mr Laurence H. Boothe took place in Masterton yesterday afternoon. The service at the chapel of Hyde’s Funeral Service and that at the graveside were conducted by the Rev. I. C. Edwards. There was a representative attendance of settlers from the Kaituna district. The pallbearers were Messrs L. Taylforth, M. Cundy, L. Barnes and R. lorns . Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Freyberg and Lady Freyberg are both mentioned in dispatches in the London “Gazette” for.gallant and distinguished services in the Middle East, a cablegram reports. This is believed to be the first time that a .husband and wife on war service have been gazetted together. Lady Freyberg went to Egypt in 1941 and organised the Forces’ Club for the fighting men of the desert army.
