WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MEETING AT KAHUTARA. (“Times-Age" Special.) The monthly meeting of the Women's Institute was held in the Kahutara Hall on Tuesday ' afternoon, Mrs Hood. Senr., presiding over a fair attendance of members. , A vote of sympathy was passed to Mrs Corlet in her illness and the hope expressed that she would soon iecover. , , , . Two letters were received from local soldiers overseas acknowledging with thanks the parcels received from the Institute members. On behalf of Institute members, Mrs Pope presented posies, together with the season’s greetings, to Mesdames Hood, Senr. (president), T. Hood (secretary), Duffy (treasurer), Elbe, Pottenger and Corlet. The remainder of the time was spent in preparing the Christmas tree. Mrs Duffy was the winner of the wall competition arranged by Mrs P( Afternoon tea was provided by the members.
CROQUET HAUNUI TOURNAMENT. A very successful tournament in aid of the association’s funds was held on the Haunui Croquet Club’s green A number of 'members from district clubs were present. Half hour games were played, the result being: Mrs Watson (Haunui) 1, Mrs Thomas (Martinborough) 2, Mrs Wilson (Haunui) 3. Miss H. Card donated the trophy for the winner. In a match for the B buttons, Mesdames McGill and Rasmussen (holders) were defeated by Mesdames Boyd and Marflitt (Martinborough), 26-20. Service Club Card Party. There was a good attendance at the Service Club’s euchre party held on Tuesday night. Mrs McGarvie .won first prize and Mrs Lowell second. A competition was won by Mr M. B. Tait. ‘ COSY THEATRE TWO BIG FEATURES. There will be two big features at the Cosy Theatre tomorrow night. The chief picture. “Canal Zone,” stars Chester Morris, Harriet Hilliard, and John Hubbard in a thrilling aviation drama. In production when enemy bombers roared across the Pearl Harbour skies. “Canal Zone” presents one of the most timely screen dramas of the year, a gripping, action-tense story of the men who stalk danger in the clouds as terror strikes the earth below. The other picture, “Emergency Landing.” presents Carol Hughes, Betty. Lambert and Forrest Tucker in a drama full of excitement.
