ST. JOHN AMBULANCE — EXAMINATION RESULTS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Carterton branch of the St John Ambulance Brigade has only been in existence two years and has a membership of twenty-seven. Recently an examination was held, the examin- 1 ing officer being Dr W. J. C. Wells and the supervisors Staff Sergeant Flaws and Sergeant Thomas,, of Masterton. The results were.as follows: — Re-examination passes, Messrs F. G. Bath, C. C. Callender, F. B. Knutson, H. T. Leete, F. H. Taplin, A. Baddiley, W. Chew, E. W. Dyer, J. J. KnoxSmith, S. D. Reynolds, P. J. Reid, E. H. Smith, L. C. Parton, E. Williams. First aid certificates: Messrs J. E. Dwane, J. P. Ewan, W. Fryer, T. A. Harding, F. W. Hatfield, J. W. Hooper, W. L. Jensen, J. W. Leith, F. J. Meyer, E. A. D. McPhee, P. Shankland.
BOWILNG CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES. , The following are further results in the Carterton Bowling Club’s championship competitions:— Champion pairs: King and Harp (s) beat Simmonds and Whyte (s), 28/11; Pankhurst and Barr (s) beat Clark and Kilmlster (s), 27/13; McCarty and Daysh (s) beat Colson and Riggs (s), 20/16; Spooner and Underhill (s) beat Newbould and Hart (s), 17/16; De Lacey and Hughan (s) beat Martin and Callender (s), 33/7. Progressive pairs: Taylor and Sorensen (s) beat Colson and Edwards (s), 25/11; Steven and Riggs (s) beat Clark and McCarty (s), 25/20; Daysh and Barber (s) beat Pankhurst and McCarty, 23/18. P. & A. Society. The monthly meeting of the general committee of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society will be held at Carterton on Saturday at 10.30 a.m. Personal Items. The Town Clerk has been authorised to forward a letter of congratulation to Field Secretary Hector Tankersley, of the British Y.M.C.A. Headquarters at Cairo, upon his having recently received a war decoration' for bravery in the present war in the Middle East. Field Secretary Tankersley is a son of Mr and Mrs Tankersley, of Rexwood Street, Carterton. Among the officials associated with the Clareville Post Office, which has been closed, was Miss H. E. Bairstow, who was postmistress before Miss Boustead, and who filled the position for a number of years, giving excellent service. Card Tournament. The weekly card tournament under the auspices of the Boy Scout Committee was held in the Bandroom last evening, when there was a good attendance. The prizes were won as follows: —Ladies: Mrs Williams, 1; Miss Mark, 2. Men: Mr Fred Jackson Junr., 1; Mr Humphries, 2. School Vacation. Tomorrow the State schools in the district close down for the summer vacation, re-opening in February.
REGENT THEATRE “DIVE BOMBER.” Tonight's programme at the Regent Theatre will be headed by the thrilling story of the air, “Dive Bomber,” with Errol Flynn, Fred Mac Murray and Alexis Smith in the principal roles. There will be a matinee 'on Friday commencing at 1.30 p.m.
