CHIMNEY REPAIR COSTS (To the Editor) Sir—l have read in your paper Mr Jordan's appeal to the ratepayers and also his statement that all work had been carried out by squads under the charge of master builders. Well, Sir, if such is the case more shame to them for allowing the public to be robbed in the manner that the accounts show. I have done work under a few builders in my time and I have yet to find a builder who would keep on employing a bricklayer who "could not lay 250 bricks per day; yet such is the case with some of these so-called bricklayers. I am sorry to say I disagree with Mr Jordan and think the people should refuse to nay these ridiculous accounts. In the boom time just after the last war, two single chimneys and a copper chimney were built for me for £lO. Now one chimney has cost me £2l 4s lOd. Will any master builder say this is" a fair price for a small outside single chimney, the only extra being a register? —I am, etc., ONE OF THE' VICTIMS. Masterton, December 17.
