Mrs J. S. Nugent, Gisborne, is staying with her sister, Mrs W. L. Hunter, Coradine Street, Masterton. The Rev. James Cumming, Chalmers Church, Otaki, has accepted an invitation to the pastorate of Masterton Baptist Church. Mrs J. W. Dove, Renall Street, Masterton, has returned to Masterton after having visited Napier to attend the Holmes—Farrell wedding. Mr. J. Belton, who has been head teacher at the Plimmerton School since 1930, is retiring after 37 years of service in education. Before going to Plimmerton he taught at the Fordell and Makino Road Schools. Mi’ and Mrs J. P. Farrell, accompanied by Mr Bryan Farrell, have returned to Masterton after having visited Napier to attend the wedding of their daughter, Kathleen, to Sub.-Lieutenant W. G. Holmes, R.N.Z.N.V.R. Word has been received that Squadron Leader F. J. Steel, of Napier, and formerly of Masterton, has completed his ' 70th bombing raid and has. been returned to England for a spell. His younger brother, R. D. Steel, was recently promoted to the rank of Flying Officer.

Mr F. J. Steel, formerly of Masterton, who for the past 21 years has been on the Manpower Committee and No. 1 Armed Forces Appeal Board in Hawke’s Bay, has resigned that position to take up the office of secretaryorganiser of the Hawke’s Bay Primary Production Council. He commences his new duties at the end of the year.
