SOLWAY SCHOOL

CHILDREN’S CONCERT. A BRIGHT PROGRAMME. There was a good attendance at a concert held in the Solway School on Tuesday when the children presented a bright programme. A pleasing feature was the fact that the plays and casts were chosen and organised by the children themselves. The second half of the programme consisted, of the cantata “Soot and the Fairies.” Here the Li'lyvale Queen and her followers gave a splendid performance in a suitable setting. The programme was as follows: Prologue, Margaret Stewart and R. Wiley; songs, children; “Hist,” Verna Te Bay; playette, infants; verse-speaking, lower standards; Highland dance, M. Creighton; songs, “Maids of Lee,” three senior girls, infants; recitation, Molly Chamberlain; folk dance, seniors; song. “Plumstones,” J. Candy, T. Woollett; play, “Clever Brother Rubber,” Std. 4; acrobatic dance, A. Stewart; play, “Punch Runs Away,” juniors; folk dance, Std. 4; pianoforte solo. M. Stewart; “A Present from Jamaica,” juniors; play, “A Pleasant Change,” seniors; cantata, “Soot and the Fairies”; epilogue, Colin Nichols; goodbye song, all the children. At the conclusion, Mr McLauchlan, chairman of the committee, thanked the parents for their attendance and the staff and children for the very enjoyable concert.
