NEW FIRE STATION
PROPOSED IN MASTERTON. ESTIMATED COST £25,500. Plans were approved by the Masterton Fire Board, at its quarterly meeting last night, for a new. fire station, to be erected in Chapel Street at an estimated cost of £25,500. The board decided to apply to the Local Bodies Loans Board for its sanction to the proposal. . The new Mans, it was stated, were a mqdification of those originally submitted for a new fire station, which was estimated to cost £34,000 or £38,000. This proposal was not acceptable to the authorities, and in consequence amended plans were drawn up. These provided accommodation for IT single men, for the superintendent and deputysuperintendent, the fire engines and plant, and social facilities for the men. In the previous plans provision was made also for flats for the accommodation of' married firemen. The board decided to make further enquiries as to securing quarters . for the married men under the modified scheme.
