TELEGRAPH CONFERENCE
OPENED AT CANBERRA. NEWS TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. (Received This Day, 12.45 p.m) CANBERRA, This Day. At the opening of the telegraph conference the Federal Prime Minister, Mr J. Curtin, said he 1 hoped some solution would be found for grave Press communication difficulties. There had been many serious delays in news transmission. Press traffic over the Empire system, which in 1928 was approximately 25,000,000 words, in 1942 had already reached a total of 92,000,000 words. Sir Campbell Stuart, chairman of the Imperial Communications Advisory Committee, who is chairman of the conference, replied that he hoped for an alleviation of this as well as other communication problems. New Zealand is represented at the conference by the Director-General of Posts and Telegraphs, Mr J. P. Young.
