Mr T. B. Clark, Superintendent of the Masterton Fire Brigade, has resumed his duties after a. vacation. Private R. Hollingsworth is spending leave in Masterton, and is the guest of Mr and Mrs T. B. Clark. ’ Mr and Mrs R. A. Button, Masterton, have received advice that their son, Spr. Eddie Button, is seriously ill m Egypt. Mr S. Horsnall, of Tariki, Taranaki, has been appointed stationmaster at Pahiatua, and will take up his duties this week. In connection with the New Zealand University examinations held recently A. A. Ross, a former pupil of the Wairarapa College, passed in History 11, section of B.A.

Tho death is reported from Christchurch. of Mr Henry Dyke Acland, a well-known figure in the public life of the Dominion. Mr Acland, who was born in New Zealand in 1867. gave wide community service both with local bodies and in the cause of education.

The death occurred in Wellington on Saturday of Mr Charles Grayndler, aged 67, who was general secretary of the New Zealand Workers’ Union from 1914 to 1923, when he retired. Mr Grayndler was born at Geelong, Victoria, and came to New Zealand in 1903. For some years he was chairman of directors ■ of the “Maoriland Worker.” Since his retirement he had been actively engaged in union affairs and with the Public Works Department'. His brother, Mr Edward Grayndler, now nearly 80 years of age. was for almost 30 years general secretary of the Australian Workers' Union. Mr Charles Grayndler leaves a family of four sons and three daughters—Mr Edward Grayndler, who is in a prisoner of war camp in Italy, Mr Clarence Grayndler, who has been reported missing since the Malayan campaign, Messrs Charles and Ray Grayndler (Wellington), Mrs O. Thornton (Masterton), Miss M. Grayndler (Greytown), and Miss K. Grayndler (Wellington). .
