TRUST AFFAIRS

BUSINESS IN COMMITTEE. DISPUTE OVER A LEASE. Most of the business that came before a meeting of the Masterton Trust Lands Trust last evening was taken in committee. One of the matters discussed concerned a dispute between the Trust and a tenant. Mr. W. H. Saunders, over a lease. Before the matter was taken in committee a letter was received from Mr. G. D. Wilson advising that both arbitrators had agreed to recommend to the respective parties that the rental payable, including rates, be reduced to'£2 per week as from June 24, 1942. until such time as the premises were made safe for occupation to the satisfaction of the Borough Engineer and the shop windows were restored, to their normal condition. After consideration of the matter in committee a motion that the lease be terminated on December 14. 1942. provided that rent, at £2 per week be paid for the period Juno 24 to December 14. was carried by six votes to three. Messrs. Macfarlane Laing, E. G. Eton and R. Krahagen voted against the motion. “I can change like the rest." observed Mr. H. H. Daniell, in first voting against the motion and then voting for the motion.

“The motion will have its repercussions." said Mr. Macfarlane Laing, in asking that his vote be recorded against the motion. At the conclusion of the business the chairman, Mr. H. P. Hugo, said that the Trust had come out well despite earthquakes and gales during the year. He wished all trustees and their wives seasonal greetings. Messrs. Eton and C. E. Grey reciprocated. Mr. Eton mentioned the good work of the secretary (Mr. Alex. McKenzie) during the year and Mr. Grey congratulated the chairman on the efficient manner in which he had carried out his duties.
