General Smuts's slogan: “I am going to fetch our boys from Italy” has swept South Africa. A cross-section of opinion in Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg shows that the Army is eager to help General Smuts to bring back its comrades from Italian prison camps. The Johannesburg “Sunday Times” says editorially: "Many are so eager to serve in Europe that we understand officers and men in North Africa, including members of the First Division, have asked General Smuts to take the action he announced.”
