TWO DROWNED

IN CREEK AT SILVERSTREAM.' COLLEGE PRINCIPAL RESCUED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Ernest Berry, 26, a student for the Catholic priesthood, resident at Mosgiel. and John Edward Davies, 14, of 25 Rugby Street, Wellington, were drowned in a creek at the rear of St. Patrick’s College, Silverstream, at 7.30 p.m. on Saturday. Berry was visiting Wellington with his mother and was asked by the Catholic authorities to take charge of a party of boys going to camn at Silverstream. Davies was caught iii the weed of the stream and Berry went to his assistance. When Berry was also in difficulties the Rev. Father Kennedy, Principal of St. Patrick’s, tried to rescue him, but he almost became a third victim. It took a long time to bring him round and he is still incapacitated.
