LANSDOWNE SCHOOL
MEETING OF COMMITTEE ANNUAL SURVEY OF WORK. PUPILS MAKE SATISFACTORY PROGRESS. The monthly meeting of the Lansdowne School Committee was held last night, Mr A. V. Faulknor presiding, there being also present: Messrs Mac Kay, Donovan. Jarvis, Potter, Long and the headmaster, Mr Jones. The headmaster reported inter alia as follows;—The present roll number is 2G4. During the past month the attendance has been good although several cases of measles have been reported. The annual survey of work has now been completed and the results show that, notwithstanding the many interruptions during the year, the work of the pupils has progressed satisfactorily. The general standard cf work is very good, ano I wish to express my thanks to all the members of the staff for their loyalty ana for the happy co-operation in all matte l '® relating to the activities of the school. All the pupils of Form 2 have qualified tor primary school certificates and the three pupils to gain the highest awards were:— Joan McGuinness, dux; Olga Bettelheim, 2; Marjorie Jamieson. 3. In Form I the two highest pupils were: Alison McKay. 1; Donald Shaw, 2. The display of handwork showed that the pupils still take a keen interest in the arts and crafts subjects and the products of their labour deserve the highest praise. The demonstration of physical education was very successful and 1 wish to thank Misses Taylor and Sewell fol their help. During the month, Miss Craig, district nurse, visited the school to make arrangements for some of the pupils to attend the health camp to be held at Hokio Beach near Levin. The camp will open on December 15 and will continue until April □f next vear. The quarterly appeal for funds resulted in the amount o£ £3 IBs being donated. The Young Helpers League members held a box opening day recently. The boxes contained the sum of £9 35,, a 'result which shows that the interest ol the members is being shown in a practical manner. The members of the Junior Red Cross sewing circle have been active during the? year and I am pleased to be able to report that sixty-three garments have been forwarded for distribution among refugee children. One hundred and forty-three children have been treated during the month at the dental clinic. The total number of patients on the register is lour hundred and twenty-six. Miss C. Murray, cf Tauranga. has been appointed to fill the vacancy on the staff. Miss C. Bubbers has been appointed probationary assistant 101 next year. _ . . The report was adopted, satisfaction being expressed by the members in connection with various matters referred to. The chairman extended the season s greetings to members of the committee and the teaching staff, which were heartily reciprocated. „
