PUBLICANS WARNED TRADING AFTER HOURS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The quarterly meeting of the Wairarapa Licensing Committee yesterday was presided over by Mr W. C. M. Sorensen in the absence of Mr H. P. Lawry. There were also present: Messrs F. W. Smith, F. W. Wood, T. Purvis and the Clerk, Mr . Whittaker. An apology for absence was received from Mr C. Skill. , . The number of convictions recorded against licensees for trading after hours was discussed. The committee took a very serious view of the matter and it was'decided that a general warning be issued to publicans, that in future cases brought before the court would be reviewed at the annual meeting and be dealt with firmly. BOWLING CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS.

BLACK-OUT TRIAL ALLEGED OFFENDERS TO BE PROSECUTED. The Mayor, Mr D. L. Taverner, presided over a meeting of the E.P.S., there being also present Messrs E. McKenzie, S. Hill, G. L. Beere, G. Brown, E T Bliss, H. T. Leete, W. Martin, C. C. Callender and Constable J. F. Williams. , ~ It was decided to approach the South Wairarapa County Council and Carterton Borough Council with a view to the purchase of an ambulance for use in the Carterton Borough and South Wairarapa County. It was decided to hold an E.P.S. trial during February, and that a sub-, committee consisting of the Mayor and Messrs G. Brown, W. F. Stent and H. T. Leete be empowered to make the preliminary arrangements. Two members of the E.P.S. are to be written to and asked to state in writing if they had a. reasonable excuse why they should not attend parades of the E.P.S. unit. ~ , - It was decided that as provided for in Regulation No. 11 of the Lighting Restrictions Emergency Regulations, 1941, proceedings be taken against those 13 persons specified in the special report submitted by the Chiei Warden for offences committed during the blackout trial held on November 9. Personal Items. Ordinary Seaman Boden was last | evening presented by the Mayor, Mr I D L Taverner, on behalf of the council and citizens of Carterton, with a leather writing wallet and a hold-all. In making the gift the Mayor referred to the part the Navy was playing m the war. He wished Seaman Boden the best of luck and a safe return to Carterton. Mrs H. Hodder, on behalf of members of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers Union, handed Seaman Boden a parJ cel of woollen garments. An apology for absence was received from Mr F. L. Barr, president of the R.S.A. Card Tournament. At the weekly card tournament held by the Boy Scout Committee in the bandroom, the prizes were won as follows:—Ladies: Mrs McCarty 1, Mrs Edwards 2. Men: Mr C. Holland 1, Mi M. Phelps 2. Verdict at Inquest. The Coroner, Mr H. P. Lawry, presided at the adjourned inquest held m connection with the death of Mrs Elizabeth Frances Vennell, who died suddenly on November 25. The Coronel returned a verdict in accordance with the medical testimony. REGENT THEATRE “SERGEANT YORK.” The Regent Theatre will be opened on Saturday night, when the excellent drama “Sergeant York’ will be presented. Most, of the scenes are taken from real life. Gary Cooper nas the greatest film role of his career in “Sergeant York.” It is a pictuie which should not be missed. To avoid disap,'pointment intending patrons should book their seats.-
