Their Excellencies the GovernorGeneral and Lady Newall, attended by Major C. J. Holland-Martin, left Wellington for Marton and Wanganui yesterday afternoon. Superintendent C. W. Lopdell, Wellington, paid a visit of inspection throughout the Wairarapa police district this week. Mr W. V. Jones, after having been on the staff of Wellington College for 26 years, is retiring because of illhealth. He has been teaching for more than 50 years. Miss P. Mygind, whose marriage will shortly take place, is spending a few days in Pahiatua with her sister. During the past week Miss Mygind has been the guest of honour at several most enjoyable gift parties. The rector of St Patrick’s College, Silverstream, the Very Rev J. J. Kennedy, S.M., at the breaking-up ceremony on Wednesday, said that on the 16th of this month the Rev Father Kane, vice-rector of the college, would have completed 25'years in the priesthood. It was not possible, he said, to estimate the good work that Father Kane had done for the youth of NewZealand in study, field and fane, and his instructions and advice would be long and gratefully remembered by thousands of boys, many of whom kept in touch with him after schooldays.
