SCHOLARS ENTERTAIN

4. FREE TEA AT MASTERTON Y.M.C.A. MUSICAL PROGRAMME ENJOYED. There was a large attendance at the free tea to men of the Armed Forces, held in the Y.M.C.A., Masterton. last night. The tea was given by scholars of the Masterton Central School Service Club. Mr J. H. Kennedy represented the Y.M.C.A. directorate. He i apologised for the unavoidable absence of the headmaster of the Central School, Mr E G Coddington. Mr Kennedy said that the letters “Y.M.C.A.” could be interpreted as “Youth Must Checifuilj Assist,” as far as the school ceivice club was concerned. Also, the letters “YM.C.A.” could well stand for the words, “Young Masterton's Complete Answer.” as borne out by the tea that night. . A devotional service was conducted by Padre Ross. On behalf of the men Sergeant Holden returned thanks. Robert Pickering, president of the Central School Services Club, welcomed the men. Items were given by Leonie Forrest (recitation), Bill Winter and Eric Price (mouth organ duet). Mr T. Vaughan was pianist. Later in the evening contributors to a musical programme included Mr Harry Hall (comic songs), Dr. N. H. Prior (pictures), Betty Barnes (piano solo), Bill Winter (mouth organ solo), Wendy Torwick (recitation), Mrs Moss (song), and Private L. Morgan (song). The Y.M.C.A. secretary, Mr W. Gaze, thanked all who had contributed to the programme
