DISPLAY OF WORK

WAIRARAPA COLLEGE EXHIBITION BRIGHT & INTERESTING FEATURES. OUTDOOR GYMNASTICS. An attractive array of beautifully finished articles in the woodwork and engineering sections were features of the annual display of work which was held at the Wairarapa College, Masterton, last night. The buildings, which were thrown open to the public, were inspected by a large number of parents and supporters of the College. A high standard of workmanship, in keeping with that of past displays, was in evidence. The boys attending the College provided an excellent exhibition of drill and gymnastics in their outdoor gymnasium under the direction of Mr Avon Tatton. A competition among the boys was won by B. Blackwood. The prize, which was presented by Mrs W. R. Nicol, was a handsome inlaid wood fruit bowl, the artistic work of Mr L. Stewart, woodwork instructor. The acting-principal, Mr F. J. Gair, in addressing those present, said that the outdoor gymnasium had been in existence only three or four weeks, and was entirely due to Mr Stewart’s efforts. The girls, under Miss M. Fletcher, gave a graceful exhibition of folk dancing. An interesting feature in the display was the rythmic typing, to music, by pupils of the typewriting class. The exhibition was quite new to the College and attracted considerable attention.
