Entries for the Jessie Mackay Memorial Prize for verse close with the hon. secretary of the P.E.N., Box 965, Wellington, on February 28, 1943. The judge for the 1942 award is Mr Alan Mulgan. Poems must have been written or published during 1942. Conditions and rules of the competition are available.

The retiring British Minister of Aircraft Production, Colonel Liewellin, told aircraft workers on Sunday, a British Official Wireless message reports, that during 1942 Britain trebled her output of heavy bombers. Colonel Liewellin added: “Only the night before last Stirlings which you produced took part with effect in the biggest raid yet made on Italy. These bombers, whether Stirlings, Lancasters, Halifaxes, or Wellingtons, are doing great damage to vital factories and all-im-portant railways both in Italy and in Germany. We have many reports from the latter country telling of the immense damage done and the effect on morale. The sooner we get more the sooner we can finish the work.”
