BOROUGH STAFF FAREWELL

PRESENTATION TO MR THORNTON Members of the local Borougn Council outside staff yesterday assembled at the Hope Street yard to bid farewell to one of their number (Mr W. Thornton) who for health reasons is removing to another town. In making him the present of a fine smokers’ stand and a barometer the Borough Engineer (Mr C. R. Mabson) and foreman (Mr H. W. Dale) eulogised the long and faithful service to staff and community rendered by Mr Thornton in the course of his daily work in association with which, at times, difficulties were met with, but were with judgment overcome. Both speakers personally regretted the loss of so valuable an employee of the Borough. Mr Thornton suitably replied. That his usual health would soon be restored to him was the expressed wish of those present.
