MILITARY MEDAL
AWARD TO GALLANT AMBULANCE DRIVER. (Official War Correspondent? N.Z.E.F.) CAIRO, November 16. An immediate award of the Military Medal has been made to a New Zealand ambulance driver, Gunner C. C. Robinson, Mokai, near Putaruru, whose 'next-of-kin is his mother, Mrs F. R. Robinson, Mokai. The citation says that on the night of June 27-28 during machinegun, antitank and field gun fire, Gunner Robinson, with utter disregard for his personal safety, closely followed and infantry bayonet attack instead of carrying out an order to follow a comparatively safe middle course. He zig-zagged his ambulance across the whole battlefield picking up lying wounded and directing walking wounded to a place of safety. His act was an outstanding example of personal courage and it was his determination and devotion to duty under intense fire that saved the lives of wounded comrades by removing them out of range of direct enemy action to medical attention.
