TRUE FRIENDS
RULER OF TRANSJORDAN & MR CHURCHILL EXCHANGE OF MESSAGES. REGARDING THE VICTORY IN EGYPT. (British Official Wireless.) (Received. This Day, i 0.50 a.m.) RUGBY, November 15. The Prime Minister (Mr Churchill) has received the following telegram from the Amir Abdullah, of Transjordan: “You must know how overjoyed I am at the great victory the Eighth Army has won in the Egyptian desert against an enemy which nearly exposed the Middle East to real peril. Truly I lack words to submit to you my heartfelt congratulations. Realising your difficulties, I offer you my heartfelt admiration. Moreover I add my assurance of congratulation on the great action which is now revealed in the well-timed landing of American forces in North Africa.” Mr Churchill replied: “I thank you most warmly for your kind messages, coming as they do from a true friend of the British Empire. We have marched steadfastly together since our — meeting in Jerusalem 21 years ago, but —- never have we seen a victory like this before. There is a long road still to tread, but the end is sure.”
