6,000 LOCOMOTIVES
LOST BY THE NAZIS IN RUSSIA.
MANY OF THEM TAKEN FROM FRANCE.
In the Russian campaign,, Germany has lost more than 6,000 locomotives up to date, the 8.8. C. reported recently. In the cold of last winter burst boilers and pipes were the chief cause of these losses. These facts are reported in Istanbul by experts who have returned from Germany, it was stated. In France, on order of the German authorities, rail transportation had to be further reduced. The main reason for this was the French shortage of rolling stock. Half of it was requisitioned by the Germans or was kept in service until the axles of cars , got stuck because of the lack of lubricating oil, the 8.8. C. claimed. Several hundred locomtives, which were recently requisitioned by the Germans in France to replace lost German engines, arrived at the Russian front heavily damaged by acts of sabotage, the 8.8. C. stated.
