ATTACKS FROM MALTA
TREMENDOUS DAMAGE DONE AT TUNIS. DESTRUCTION OF ENEMY AIRCRAFT. LONDON, November 14. A communique from Middle East headquarters in Cairo states: ‘JTunis aerodrome was heavily bombed and machine-gunned on Thursday night, and petrol dumps, workshops, hangars, and an aircraft were destroyed. Yesterday our long-range fighters attacked, a formation of about 60 aircraft flying northward toward Sicily. Seven large aircraft were destroyed and about six others badly damaged. (This is additional to the six troop-carrying aircraft which we destroyed in this area on the previous day.)” From these and other operations (including Libya) three Allied aircraft are missing. Aerial photos show that tremendous damage was done in Thursday night’s raid on the Tunis aerodrome by bombers from Malta. It is not clear whether the 60 enemy planes we intercepted were carrying troops. They may have been leaving Tripoli with enemy troops or going’ back to Sicily for more.
The six planes destroyed on the previous day were reported to be carrying troops northward.
