CAPTAIN CHERRY
RESCUED IN PACIFIC
PILOT OF RICKENBACKER’S PLANE MISSING SINCE OCTOBER 21. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.30 a.m.) WASHINGTON, November .13. The Navy has rescued Captain William Cherry, pilot of Captain Rickenbacker’s plane, which has been missing in the Pacific since October 21. The War Department announced that Captain Cherry’s condition is good but that he is weak. It is believed to be possible that other survivors may be on rafts in the same general vicinity. Captain Cherry’s rescue has caused an immediate resumption of the search in areas south of Honolulu.
Captain Rickenbacker’s plane, in which he was accompanied by a crew of seven American Army airmen, was last heard from in‘a position youthwest of Honolulu, on October 21. It then reported that it had slightly more than an hour’s supply of petrol left. The plane was engaged in a survey flight.
