KOPUARANGA
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE COMPETITION WINNERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Kopuaranga Women’s Institute was held in the local hall yesterday. . Mrs W. J. Cottle presided over a fair attendance of members. Members stood in silence for a few moments a mark of respect to the memory of Sergeant Gunner Keith Donald, who has been killed in action, and sympathy was extended to Mr and Mrs Donald and Mrs E. C. Cottle in their bereavement. The treasurer reported that two more soldiers’ parcels had been sent away. Mrs Cottle read a report of the halfyearly council meeting held in Carterton recently. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Hansen and O’Connor. Mrs W. J. Cottle and Mrs J. Brophy gave an interesting and useful demonstration on making crotchet coat hangers, and also sockettes from men’s old socks. On the motion of Mrs Jarrett they were accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The roll call, “an economical hint,” was answered by all present. The results of the competitions were: Best bloom, Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs Wright 2, Miss M. Cottle 3. Soft toy, Mrs Wright 1, Mrs Hewitt 2, Mrs Jarrett 3. The toys are to be held for a “bring and buy” stall of Christmas novelties in December.
