CAPTAIN COLLINS APPOINTED TO COMMAND. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day. 11.40 a.m.) SYDNEY. This Day. Captain John Augustine Collins, formerly commander of the cruiser Sydney, has been appointed to- command the cruiser given to Australia by Britain to replace the Canberra, sunk .in the Solomons battle. Captain Collins commanded the Sydney when she F2i?K the Italian cruiser Bartolomeo Colleoni, in the Mediterranean, in July, 1940 In the early stages of the war against Japan. Captain Collins served in the Netherlands East Indies, with the rank of acting commodore. Subsequently he was naval officer in charge at Fremantle. In accordance with naval practice, he has resumed the raiw of captain for his new command.
