INEVITABLE DEFEAT
FACED BY AXIS POWERS DECLARATION BY PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT. PEAK OF STRENGTH PASSED. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) WASHINGTON. November 11. “The enemy today faces inevitable defeat,” declared President Roosevelt in an Armistice Day speech at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. “The Nazis and their appropriate associates. the Japaneses, for a time seemed successful in realising their boundless ambition. They * overran great territories, they enslaved, they killed, but today we know and they know they have conquered nothing. Today they face inevitable final defeat. -The forces of liberation are advancing. Britain, Russia, China, the United States, roll rapidly to full strength, while their opponents have passed their peak." The American offensive in Africa is the biggest of its kind that has ever been attempted, said Lieutenant-Gen-eral Somerville, the military supply chief, in an Armistice Day speech at Pittsburgh. He added. “American soldiers, sailers, and marines, under an American commander, are on their way. That way will lead to Tokio and Berlin. While all the free world was shouting for a second front we piled up munitions and supplies, getting ready for this great push. There will be other and greater pushes.”
