FUNERAL IN CHRISTCHURCH

LATE HON. H. T. ARMSTRONG. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, November 12. A congregation numbering thousands gathered at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart this morning, when Solemn Requiem Mass for the late Hon. H. T. Armstrong was celebrated. Among those present were the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, and members of the Cabinet, and Commander A. D. Boyle, A.D.C., representing the Governor-General. A moving tribute to Mr Armstrong’s services to humanity was paid by Bishop Brodie, who had known him for practically his whole lifetime. Later in the morning the casket was removed to the Civic Theatre, where uniformed tramwaymen kept guard, and between noon and 2 o’clock thousands of citizens filed past the coffin. The funeral this afternoon was very largely attended. Two military bands took part. The bearers at the graveside were the Prime Minister and Messrs Semple, Webb, Sullivan and Paikea.
