WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
SIXTEENTH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATED. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the sixteenth birthday of the local Women’s Institute, Mrs Albretchsen presided over a large attendance of members and friends. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Carter, Dick, Gray, Edmonds, Fraser and Olivant. Mrs Burnett, president of the Bush Federation, was .welcomed and presented with a bouquet of flowers. An invitation was received to the Rongokokako Institute’s birthday on November 14. The grandmothers present were honoured and each presented with a buttonhole by the president. Mrs C. Farrow read a very interesting report of the half-yearly council meeting, held in Eketahuna recently, and was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks. One new member was accepted. Birthday greetings were received from the Hamua, Rongokokako, Kaiparoro and other Institutes. The birthday cake was cut by Mrs Burnett, assisted by Mrs- F. Hooper, a past president, and Mrs Albretchsen. Mrs Bauke demonstrated how to make vegetable salads, and was thanked in connection therewith. A duet was nicely sung by Mrs Sturgeon and Miss M. Hooper. Afternoon tea was served by members of the committee. The winners of the competitions were as follow: —Passing the parcel, Mrs Robertson; stepping 2 yards for grandmothers, Mrs W. J. Hooper 1, Mrs B. Morris 2; Premier bloom, Mrs Bauke 1, Mrs T. D. Oliver 2, Mrs Fauvel and Mrs Petersen (equal) 3; three flowers, Mrs T. D .Oliver 1, Mrs Petersen 2, Mrs Bauke 3; soft toy, Mrs Albretchsen 1.
