CARTERTON

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE COMPETITION WINNERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mrs F. Groube presided at the monthly meeting of the Dalefield-Matarawa Women’s Institute. A new member was elected. Mrs Whisker, of Carterton, gave an interesting demonstration on making toys, for which she was thanked and presented with a shoulder spray. The competitions resulted as follows: Heaviest egg, Miss J. Conwell 1, Miss B. Sadler 2, Miss J. Goodin 3. Best bloom, Miss B. Sadler 1, Miss J. Conwell 2, Miss J. Goodin 3. Best bloom (seniors): Mrs Meyrick 1, Mrs L. Rogers 2, Mrs W- Knowles 3. .Heaviest egg, Mrs E." Smith 1, Mesdames W. Ticehurst, A. Goodin, O. Brazendale, B. Gallon, G. Sadler, equal, 2, Mesdames J. Hicks and B. Champion, equal, 3. Brick and Tile Works. The Amalgamated Brick and Tile Company’s works, which were badly damaged in a wind storm and later by the earthquake, are gradually being remodelled and it will not be long before the building will be finished. When completed it will be one of the most uptodate businesses of its kind in the Wellington district. Wreath Placed on Monument. During the Armistice Day silence yesterday a wreath was placed on the war memorial by Messrs F. L. Barr (president) and A. G. Rabbits, secretary of the Carterton branch of the R.S.A. Women’s Division Dance. Members of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union have reason to be pleased with the result of the dance held in the State Theatre last evening. The hall was packed, and a most enjoyable time was spent to splendid music supplied by Mrs V. J. Ashton’s orchestra. Extras were played by Misses V. Irwin and E. Lorenzen. Mr V. J. Ashton was an efficient M.C.
