Private L. E. Dean, who was an inmate of the Greytown Hospital, has returned to his home in Masterton. Mrs Newland, of Greytown, has received advice that her son, Sergeant Ron Newland, has been wounded in the fighting in Egypt. The many friends of Mrs Malcolm Davies, of Pahiatua, will be pleased to learn that she is progressing favourably in the Masterton Hospital. Mr and Mrs Owen Welch, Mt. Bruce, Masterton, wish to announce the engagement of their only daughter, Mdnica Vcre, to Corporal Douglas Samuel Brooker, of the N.Z.R.A.F., eldest son of Mr and Mrs Noel Brooker, Main Street, Palmerston North. The death ocurred suddenly yesterday at Te Wharau of Mr Abel John Collier, a resident of several years’ standing. He was born in Wellington 70 years ago, and was a coal miner on the West Coast for many years. He is survived by his wife and one daughter (Mrs McKersey, Wellington). The funeral will take place tomorrow, leaving Hyde’s Chapel at 10 o’clock for the Masterton Cemetery. The funeral of the late Sirs Maria Curry took place in Masterton this morning. Requiem Mass was conducted at St. Patrick’s Church by the Rev. Father N. Moore and Dr. Gilhooly. The pall-bearers at the church were Messrs A. J., J. F., D. B. and F. M. Curry (sons), and at the graveside, Messrs A. E. Prentice, R. A. Clarke (sons-in-law), E. G. Williams and Corporal Truhy. Wreaths were received from the Waingawa Freezing Works, staff and fellmongery staff; Transport (Wairarapa), Ltd.; Officers, n.c.o.’s and men of Lines of Communication No. 13, Masterton, and from friends in. Masterton, Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Pal,merston North, Hastings and Napier. The name of one of the sons, Mr James Curry, Masterton, was inadvertently omitted from the list published yesterday.
