CARTERTON
SWIMMING BATHS TOWN CLERK TO ARRANGE OPENING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Carterton Municipal swimming baths are being filled from the water service, and the Borough Council has decided that the official opening of the same be left to the town clerk to arrange. BOROUGH COUNCIL MONTHLY MEETING LAST NIGHT. LEAKING WATER SERVICES. (“Times-Age” Special.) t The Mayor (Mr D. L. Taverner) presided over the monthly meeting of the Carterton. Borough Council last evening. There were also present: Councillors W. A. Hart, E. McKenzie, H. Mortenson, L. M. Clark, C. J. DeLacey, Howard E.-Jackson and Miss O. W. Wolters. Apologies for absence were received from Councillors C. E. Stevens and W. R. Harry. Messrs Hart and Tucker, borough solicitors, wrote in regard to the surrender of the Cemetery Reserve lease, which was accepted by the council. The Sanitary Inspector reported that samples of the Carterton Borough water had been taken after the earthquake and that the tests had been satisfactory. Food premises had been inspected and in some instances refuse had been ordered to be removed.
A recommendation was made by the Works Committee that the erection of a dwelling house in Park Road for Mr W. S. King be allowed. The council approved of the recommendation. Tenders are to be called for the erection of a shed for the housing of the chloronation plant. The disposal by sale of the pig styes on the Moreton Road farm was left in the hands of Councillor Mortenson and the Town Clerk. Mr Thos. Mellish was appointed to a vacancy on the outside staff. It was decided that the collection of rubbish be made in December, January and February, and thereafter in 2 monthly periods. It was resolved that on properties where there were leaking water services the owners be notified to remedy the same within 14 days, in default legal action be taken. . The dog nuisance in the area between Victoria Street and Rhodes Street was referred to, and after discussion it was resolved that the dog tax collector one day each week check up on straying dogs for the purpose of instituting legal proceedings. Personal Items. Mrs de Norville, who spent the weekend at Napier, has returned to Carterton. Able Seaman Noel Jensen,, of the Australian Royal Navy, is visiting Carterton. He will return to duty at the weekend. He recently had an exciting experience in Sydney Harbo’ur. being among those on board a vessel which was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine.
