Phenomenal Rainfall at Otira.
During three days of last week there was a phenomenal rainfall at Otira, in the South Island, the total recorded being 23.46 in. \ Army Reserve Transport.
The personnel of the Line of Communications, Motor Transport Company, are reminded that they are required to parade at the usual parade places in their home towns at 12.30 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, to proceed to weekend bivouac. The Masterton personnel are advised that there will be no parade on Thursday evening this week.
Charges Dismissed. Charges of negligent driving causing death and driving without due care and attention were preferred against a Maori, Henry I. Hutana, in the Magistrates’ Court, Masterton, yesterday. After hearing several witnesses, Messrs S. L. P. Free and G. W. Lamb, who were on the Bench, dismissed the informations. The charges arose out of an accident recently at Carterton, when a car hit a telegraph pole early in the morning and a passenger, a soldier, Robert Donald Wilson, died _ after his admission to Greytown hospital.
Saluting by W.A.A.C. Girls. Special exceptions to the regulations requiring all other ranks to salute commissioned officers have been made 'applicable to members of the N.Z. W.A.A.C., according to the latest Army headquarters instructions. Except in the special circumstances mentioned below, officers and soldiers of the Army are not required to salute commissioned officers of the W.A.A.C., but it is expected they will do so in courtesy. Members of the W.A.A.C. will salute their own officers when on duty or on parade. Subject to the condition stated below members of the W.A.A.C. are not required to salute commissioned officers of the Army and other services except as a matter of courtesy. When personnel of the Army I and of the W.A.A.C. are serving to-1 gether within a unit all commissioned officers will salute their seniors, and I all other ranks will salute commis-i sioned officers, whether male or female, [ when on duty or on parade and on j any other formal occasions the officer commanding the unit may prescribe. 1
