TRANSPORT LICENSING

SITTING OF NO. 2 AUTHORITY. WAIRARAPA CASES DEALT WITH. At a sitting of the No. 2 Transport Licensing Authority, Mr P. Skoglund, held in Masterton yesterday afternoon, an application for the transfer of a goods service licence from H. B. Bull (Greytown) to I. Allen and Son, Ltd. (Masterton) was refused. Mr T. Jordan appeared in support of the application, and Mr J. Macfarlane Laing opposed it on behalf of Transport (Wairarapa) Ltd. Mr Laing held that the case involved a principle—whether or not trafficking in transport licences from outside areas should be allowed. Mr Skoglund said he would consider granting an amended licence which would permit the cartage of metal, etc., for Public Works and local body work, but Mr Jordan said it was not acceptable to his client.

Mr Laing said that if the application were granted it would deprive the Greytown district of the licence, localised in that district, in favour of another district which was already fully supplied. A new application for a goods service licence by R. K. J. Cavanagh, of Hamua, was granted, the area to be allocated by the Pahiatua Goods Transport Control Committee.

An application of suspension, for the duration of the war, of licences held by Milner and Son, Mauriceville, was granted.
