SWIMMING SEASON

MASTERTON CLUB ANNUAL REPORT.

SUCCESSFUL YEAR RECORDED. The annual report of the Masterton Amateur Swimming and Life Saving Club records a successful season, in spite of adverse weather and war difficulties. Twenty-eight members are serving with the forces, four have made the supreme sacrifice and seven others have been listed as casualties. The season finished with a financial membership of 43. The weekly swims, the report states, were well contested, especially in the junior section. The following won club trophies during the season:—Peacock Memorial Cup, junior girls’ championship, M. Cruickshank; N. McKenzie Cup, junior girls’ dive, M. Cruickshank; Peacock Memorial Cup, junior boys’ championship, K. Masters; A. W. Hollings Cup, junior boys’ dive, M. I Gleeson; F. Yule Cup, intermediate girls’ championship, M, Pauling; J. Barnes Cup, intermediate boys’ championship. F. Sexton; J. J. Barnes Cup, ladies’ championship, J. Aikman; C. Spiers Cup, ladies’ dive, N. Stains; H. E. Pither Cup, men’s championship, J. Barnes; breaststroke cup, D. Cairns; A. A. Wilson Cup, Wairarapa primary boys’ championship, N. Desmond; men’s dive, E. Braggins. The carnival was a very successful one. the report states. The prizes won during the year were presented at a social evening. The club sponsored a girls’ interhouse swimming evening. The club was indebted to the Interhouse Association for assistance, during the season. Receipt of donations is acknowledged from Messrs N. Heath and H. P. Glen and the Wairarapa Interhouse Association. The thanks of the club are expressed to all officials, the Press, the hon. auditor, Mr D. B. Curry, to Mr C. Spiers and to the baths custodian, Mr A. Torrance. The report is signed by Mr H. P. Glen (president) and F. Stains (hon. secretary).
