HEAVY TRAIN TRAFFIC
CONGESTION AT TRENTHAM. WAIRARAPA EXPRESS DELAYED. Railway traffic both ways was particularly heavy at Master ton yesterday. The race train was very well patronised and all other passenger trains were heavily laden. The south-bound Wairarapa express was one hour late in reaching Wellington. The large attendance at the Trentham races yesterday led to considerable congestion and delay to railway traffic returning to Wellington after the racing was concluded. One of the largest crowds Trentham has known provided, in the absence of the normal heavy motor-vehicle traffic, a difficult problem for the railways. When the last race train had left, very heavily laden with passengers, there were still several hundred racegoers awaiting transport.. They found accommodation on the Wairarapa express, normally due in Wellington at 5.44 p.m. Last night the express arrived about one hour late, and the train which left :Masterton at 4.10 p.m. reached Wellington at 9.35 p.m.
