DRAFT AGE LOWERED IN UNITED STATES. SENATE AMENDMENTS. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) WASHINGTON, October 25. After clashes with the Administration and the Army Command, the Senate, by 58 votes to 5, passed the Bill lowering the draft age "to eighteen. An amendment stipulating that no person under twenty years of age shall be placed on actual battle duty beyond the continental United States until he has had at least one year’s training after induction, was carried by the Senate, despite the personal appeals of President Roosevelt and General Marshall. The Bill further provides that registrants must not be inducted after they have attained the age of 45, and that irreplaceable farm labour must not be inducted.
