The local sub-centre of the Red Cross Society held a very successful and enjoyable flag 500 tournament in the Anglican Hall on Saturday night, there being a good attendance. Mr M. Priest (president) presented the prizes to the following winners:— Mesdames Murray-Aynsley, N. Liardet and D. Scott and Mr A. Stewart. Mr Priest, on behalf of the Red Cross Society, handed gifts of china to Mesdames D. Fraser and H. H. Elmes, two members of the committee who have ’taken up their residence' in Pahiatua. Supper was served by the committee. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs L. C. Christie spent the weekend in Ashhurst.’ Miss Alison Simmers, Wellington, spent the weekend with Dr and Mrs Simmers. Official advice has been received that Pte. J. Petersen, Atea, who was reported missing, is a prisoner of war. Private Petersen left New Zealand with the first body of soldiers. Mr and Mrs Cooper, Alfredton, are . the guests of Mr and Mrs AV. Boustead, Alfredton Road. Mr Maurice Carter, Feilding, is staying with his mother, Mrs A. S. Carter in Anderson Street. Mrs G. Olsen, Dannevirke, is the guest of Mrs W. Olsen, Newman Road. Aircraftman J. Curry, Blenheim, is visiting his parents in Station Road. Mrs Eastwood, Te Aroha, is the guest of Mrs R. Gallagher, Liverpool House. Mr and Mrs A.' Jesson, Hataitai, and Miss M. Kitching, Wellington, are the guests of Mr and Mrs G. Jesson, Alfredton Road. Messrs W. and F. Olsen spent the weekend fishing at Makuri. Mr and Mrs H. Rogers are visitors to J Wellington. : Mrs L. Houlbrooke, Alfredton Road, 1 is visiting her son, Mr H. A. Houl- •> brooke, Woodville. i Messrs A. and J. Fredericksen, An- £ derson Street, are visiting Wellington. J Address on Solomon Islands. Sister 1 Lina Jones, who has recently returned from the Solomon Islands, gave a very interesting address in the Methodist School recently. She was stationed at Roviana in New Georgia. She had been a resident on the island for 14 years and was teaching in the kindergarten and school and was also in charge of the sisters’ home and, trained the girls and orphans. The Americans at Guadalcanal' were about £ 150 miles from New Georgia. The a natives, she said, were antagonistic to r the Japanese. c
