ON STALINGRAD FACTORY DISTRICTS
Limited Enemy Penetration In One Sector SOME SOVIET GAINS NORTH-WEST OF CITY LENINGRAD OPERATIONS HAMPERED BY WEATHER LONDON, October 26. The defenders of .Stalingrad are battling fiercely to beat off a new German attack on one of the factory districts. This may be the Red October works, which the Germans claimed to have captured some days ago. The new attack was launched with infantry and tanks, after artillery and mortar fire had prepared the way. The Germans succeeded in breaking through on the outskirts of one of the factories. Later Moscow despatches state that the Russians are fighting hard to wipe out the enemy units. North-west of Stalingrad Soviet troops are active in several sectors. They have occupied more enemy blockhouses and positions. The Germans in the Mozdok area have been forced to a temporary standstill. There is little news from other fronts. In the Leningrad sector operations are hampered by soft ground. Snow has fallen and thin ice has formed on Lake Ladoga,
