Price of Cheese.
The retail price of mild cheese has been fixed by the Price Tribunal at a maximum of Is per lb.
Home Nursing Classes. Home nursing classes under the auspices of the St. John Ambulance Brigade Nursing Division, commenced in Masterton last night. The class last night was largely attended. Mrs A. F. Stewart, Voluntary Aid Commandant, is conducting the lectures. After Mrs Stewart’s lecture those present practised roller bandaging. St. John Ambulance.
An examination in first aid was held recently in connection with St. John Ambulance Brigade. The instructor was Dr N. H. Prior, the examiner Dr J. Rich, and the supervisor Mrs H. W. Thompson. All the candidates passed. They were Sanchia Hunter, Mavis Taylor, Peggy Stewart. June Cooper, Melba Nyhan, Alva Wells, Shirley Fantham, Jean Wells.
Waste Paper. A sum of £2B Is 8d has been received by the Town Clerk, Mr G. T. O’Hara Smith, for the sale of over 9t tons of waste paper recently despatched from the Masterton depot to the mills. This money has been credited to the Provincial Patriotic Fund. A further quantity of paper at the depot is awaiting baling. Issue cf Coupon Books.
The issue of the new coupon books at the Masterton Post Office is proceeding at a brisk rate. The total number issued during the week up to last night was 5456. The office will be open between 7 and 9.30 o’clock tonight for the special convenience of those who cannot attend during the day. The usual Saturday hours, 9 a.m. to noon, will be observed tomorrow. Kennel Club Meeting.
At a meeting of the committe of the Wairarapa Kennel Club, several new members were elected. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr J. Soler for judging at the Ribbon Parade. The hope was expressed that he would be able to address a meeting some time in November on dog showing and the various points of a dog. A discussion took place with regard to holding a show, and it was finally decided to hold a challenge show, subject to obtaining suitable accommodation, at a date at the end of January or early in February. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr W. F. McLaren for a donation to the club funds, and to Mrs Hugh Morrison, who has promised a cup to be competed for at the next club show.
