AXIS LIE
REGARDING SINKING OF LINERS CARRYING AMERICAN SOLDIERS. EMPHATIC AND COMPLETE DENIAL. LONDON, October 22. The United States Army commander in the European zone (General D. Eisenhower), in an announcement in London, stated that at tlie end of September the Axis asserted that several large liners, heavily Jaden with American troops, had been sunk in the Atlantic. These reports, he states, • are completely unfounded. General Eisenhower said it was another example of unreliability of Axis reports. This information had been withheld until every American soldier on the Atlantic at the time of the enemy announcement had landed safely in the United Kingdom.
