PRISON VAN

USED FOR CONVEYANCE OF MR CHURCHILL. SECRECY PRECAUTION AT GIBRALTAR. (Received This Day, 10.55 a.m.) (By Telegraph—Press Association.) GIBRALTAR, October 22. A “Black Maria” took Mr Churchill from the aerodrome to Government House during his recent visit to Gibraltar. Dr Buxton said the “Black Maria” was used to prevent the British Prime Minister’s presence being quickly known. Mr Churchill was somewhat surprised when, the moment he left the plane, the “Black Maria” drove up and he was asked to step inside. He demurred until the need for maintaining secrecy had been explained.”
